A hematoma is a mass of clotted blood caused by an injury to the blood vessels. They can form on any organ in the body, including the brain, and range in size from the size of a pin to as large as a baseball. Symptoms depend on where it is located, with more serious symptoms tending to be reserved for things like hematoma’s on the brain. Hematoma’s can occur in anyone at any age, though those on blood thinners are at an increased risk of developing hematoma’s after an injury.

Because hematomas can be caused by every day activities, it is virtually impossible to prevent against them unless you simply stop moving.

 

How can I get rid of hematomas?

  • Move the affect limb as much as you can to get blood moving to the hematoma to heal it faster.
  • Apply cold compresses to the hematoma to help speed up healing.
  • Wrap a fresh bandage over the wound and place crushed onion beneath it on the affected area.
  • Elevate the affected area to help the blood keep from continuing to pool beneath the skin.
  • Add a pinch of turmeric powder to a glass of warm milk and drink once a day. It will help dissolve the hematoma and prevent infection.
  • Eat foods high in vitamin C as it is a powerful healing anti-oxidant.
  • Arnica and comfrey can help reduce the pain of a hematoma as well as some of the swelling.
