How to Stop Vomiting

Vomiting, often the symptom of another illness, is often caused by a virus or bacteria, morning sickness, nervousness, medicines, migraines, heart attack, stroke, head injury, alcohol and drug overdoses, overeating, eating disorders, motion sickness and even diabetes, kidney stones or other infections. It can quickly cause dehydration and a number of other problems because of the dehydration. Getting your vomiting under control so that you can avoid dehydration and other problems is important!

 

How can I prevent vomiting?

Vomiting is usually the symptom of another illness. If you have been suffering from vomiting recently, or feel nauseated, use these tips to avoid vomiting:

  • Don’t eat spicy foods
  • Avoid oily foods
  • Keep foods a neutral temperature, don’t eat or drink anything too hot or too cold
  • Avoid things that irritate the stomach such as alcohol, coffee and soda.
  • Rest after meals.

 

How can I treat vomiting?

  • Try getting some fresh air
  • Fast for a day, stick to fruit juices, ice and popsicles
  • Eat bland foods such as boiled white rice and broths
  • Drink fluids to keep from dehydrating
  • Try drinking a cup of fresh pineapple juice with a pinch of ginger, a pinch of pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of sugar
  • Make a stomach soothing drink of lime juice and water with 10 drops of lime in a cup of water with 1/2 teaspoon sugar and 1/4 teaspoon baking soda to neutralize acid.
  • Chew 1-2 cardamom seeds to soothe the stomach.
  • Ginger soothes the stomach. Chew ginger candy or make a ginger tea.
  • Try eating a little yogurt with ginger and honey. Honey is a natural antibacterial and yogurt with live cultures is full of beneficial bacteria that will only help you heal faster.
