Natural Remedies for Chlamydia

One of the most common sexually transmitted diseases, Chlamydia is a master of disguise. In fact 75% of women and 50% of men with chlamydia do not show symptoms of the disease. After contact it can take up to three weeks for symptoms to show, if they are going to show. This means it can easily be transmitted between partners unknowingly. Treating the infection is important. If left untreated in women it can cause Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, infertility, ectopic pregnancy, premature birth and birth defects. In men it can cause urethritis, epididymitis, and proctitis.

  • Abnormal, smelly vaginal discharge
  • Bleeding between periods
  • Painful periods
  • Stomach pain with fever
  • Pain during sex
  • Itching and burning in and around the vagina
  • Pain during urination
  • Clear or cloudy discharge from the penis
  • Burning and itching around the opening of the penis
  • Pain and swelling around the testicles

 

How can I prevent chlamydia?

The best way to prevent getting chlamydia is to practice safe sex.

  • Talk to your partner before engaging in sexual activities. Ask them how many partners they’ve had, if they engage in high risk behaviors, have they ever had an STI and was it cured, and the best way to protect yourself if it’s not cureable.
  • Avoid sexual contact with others if you are showing signs and symptoms or if they are.
  • Limit yourself to one sexual partner at a time; having more than one partner increases your risk.
  • Remember that STI’s can be transmitted through genital-to-genital, oral-to-genital, and anal-to-genital contact.
  • Use condoms.

 

How can I treat chlamydia?

Your doctor can prescribe medication to kill off the bacteria, but adding these natural remedies will help.

  • Garlic is a potent antibacterial. Eat lots of it and use it on the affected genital area. Avoid open sores, however, as it can cause a burning sensation.
  • Make a wash of diluted tea tree oil in lukewarm water. Wash twice a day to kill off the bacteria and soothe discomfort.
  • Drink a tea made from sage. It helpsto flush the bacteria from the body.
  • Switch your diet to a low fat, high fiber diet high in fruits and veggies with high numbers of phytonutrients. This will boost the immune system.
  • Echinacea and goldenseal extracts are excellent immune system boosters.
  • Saw palmetto helps to clear out the bacteria and even heal UTI’s that may come secondary to a chlamydia infection.
