How can I tell if I have diarrhea?

  • Abdominal bloating and cramps
  • Thin or loose stools
  • Watery stools
  • Urgency
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Blood, mucus or undigested food in the stools
  • Weight loss
  • Fever

How can I prevent diarrhea?

Diarrhea cannot always be prevented, but if you suffer from diarrhea as a result of a viral or bacterial infection the best way to prevent it is to prevent the disease. Make sure any meats that you prepare are prepared properly, take steps to avoid contamination in the kitchen, and be sure that you wash your hands, especially in public places.

How can I treat diarrhea?

  • Stay hydrated. Though this seems counter-intuitive, diarrhea can quickly dehydrate the body so keep your body hydrated and healthy.
  • Enjoy some yogurt with live cultures. The beneficial bacteria in yogurt helps to rebalance the body’s good bacteria that are found in the digestive tract.
  • Rest. When you’re ill or not feeling well, rest is the best way to recover.
  • Enjoy broths. They are high in nutrients but don’t cause your body to struggle with digestion.
  • Avoid anything dairy. Dairy is hard for the body to digest at the best of times.
  • Try chamomile tea. It’s gentle and soothes cramps in the body.
  • Stay away from greasy, high fiber foods and instead enjoy easy to digest offerings such as soup, jell-o, bananas, toast, and white rice.
  • Enjoy blueberries. They have tannins which help to eliminate diarrhea.
  • Make orange peel tea. It will help aid in digestion.
