Black lung, named because of the way the coal dust makes the lungs look black instead of their normal, healthy pink. It is a type of lung disease. It can affect not just coal miners but also those who work coal trimming, mining and milling graphite, and manufacturing carbon electrodes and carbon black.   • Eat foods high in catechins like strawberries and green teas, kaemperfols like Brussels sprouts, and quercetin like beans and onions. These flavonoids help to protect against cancer by stopping cancer cell growth and fighting damage done by smoking.
  • Increase your intake of vitamin A. Eat foods like papaya and cantaloupe.
  • Licorice root helps to reduce mucous membrane irritation and acts as an expectorant allowing you to expel any mucus that could be harboring bacteria.
