Treat Double-Vision Naturally

Double vision, or diplopia, is a symptom of serious eye conditions that often need immediate medical treatment.  If you suddenly experience double vision you should seek medical attention immediately to make sure that a serious and life threatening condition is not present. Double vision can be disorienting and frustrating and is a condition that men, woman and children can suffer from at any point in their life. Eye exercises are the best way to help alleviate it but should only be done once you have been checked out by a doctor and you know that all conditions are under control. While it is possible to lose double vision without caring for other conditions such as cataracts or astigmatism, this is not a good idea as it often means that the problem is persisting but that your brain has simply adjusted for the double vision and is no longer picking up signals from both eyes.

  • The string bead eye exercise has you take a string about fifteen feet long. 18 inches from the end of the string wrap one bead. Then at 24 inches wrap a second bead, and the last at 30 inches. Attach the beaded end to the wall or to a door and hold the string to your nose. Focus on making one image at the first bead. Hold for 10 seconds, then move on to the next two beads, repeating five times. Do this four times a week.
  • The near- far exercise has you focus on the tip of a pencil six inches from your face for five seconds, then look off into the distance (at least 20 feet away) for five seconds. Repeat twenty times twice a day.
  • To do the concentration eye exercise seat yourself comfortably on a chair or lay on a sofa. Close your eyes and practice deep breathing for one minute. Open your eyes and focus on an object in the distance, such as a door. Close your eyes again and picture the item in your mind. Be as detailed as possible.
  • When palming, rub your hands together till warm then cup over the eyes making sure not to touch the eyeballs. Remove the hands after a few minutes, leave your eyes closed and gently roll your head to ease any tension. Slowly reopen your eyes, look at an object in the distance and blink several times while maintaining focus. Repeat and look at an object close up.
