A uterine cancer diagnosis can be life-changing and frightening. Cancer is scary, but arming yourself with knowledge is the first step to successfully defeating the disease. Uterine cancer, also known as endometrial cancer, is caused when the lining of the uterus is allowed to build up over time without being flushed out by the menstrual cycle. It usually occurs in women over the age of 50 and if found early is usually curable! Plus, most of the time it is found before it has spread to other organs outside of the uterus. A biopsy is the primary way that this type of cancer is diagnosed and the primary treatment is a hysterectomy.

What are the symptoms of Uterine Cancer?

The most common uterine cancer symptom is vaginal bleeding after menopause. You may also have pain in the pelvic area, a lump in the pelvic area and suffer abnormal weight loss. The symptoms of endometrial cancer can sometimes be confused for those of endometriosis.

What can cause Uterine Cancer?

Estrogen is the number one culprit behind endometrial cancer. When estrogen begins to out number progesterone it can cause a build up of the lining in the uterus. This can allow cancer cells to grow.

How do I treat Uterine Cancer?

Alternative treatments should be done in conjunction with traditional medicine in order to boost your chances of defeating cancer.

  • Drink green tea. It comes in a decaffeinated option that is best and helps to fight cancer.
  • Up your intake of foods with omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Lower your intake of refined sugar and processed flours to help keep blood sugar under control.
  • Increase your intake of vegetables, particularly the cruciferous veggies as they can help to fight off the cancer cells.
  • Avoid dairy! Dairy just adds extra strain to the body making it harder to focus on defeating cancer.
  • Increase your intake of foods with vitamin E.
  • Get plenty of sunlight. Sunlight helps to increase your vitamin D which helps your body absorb calcium. Deficiencies with both have been linked to ovarian cancer.
