Natural Remedies for Dry Skin

There are many reasons that our skin gets dry; everything from weather to dehydration plays a part in how healthy your skin is. Keeping skin moisturized is the key to making sure it stays healthy which means that you have to engage in a careful balancing act. Remember, too much showering for too long can actually harm your skin as it removes the essential, natural oils produced by your body that are keeping your skin soft.

How can I prevent dry skin?

  • Avoid long, hot showers
  • Use gentle cleansers with moisturizers
  • Moisturize skin while it’s still a bit moist
  • Look for lotions and moisturizers that have ceraminds, dimethicone, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, lanolin, mineral oil and petroleum jelly
  • Keep a humidifier in your home to keep air moist
  • Wear cotton
  • Drink lots of water
  • Eat foods rich in Omega-3’s


How can I treat dry skin?

  • Use a cleanser of milk, jojoba or avocado oil; they leave skin feeling silky.
  • Cleanse using hyaluronic acid, then moisturize with liposomes and ceramides.
  • Use shea butter, vitamin A and vitamin E on your skin.
  • Use a gentle skin peel once a month, then moisturize afterwards.
  • Use an aloe vera mask on your skin for 15 minutes twice a week.
  • Try a baking soda sponge bath with 4 tablespoons baking soda to 1 quart of water. Or add 1 cup of baking soda to a bath and soak for 30 minutes to eliminate itching.
  • Oatmeal baths are a great way to soothe dry skin. Oatmeal is packed with vitamin E!
  • Use salt as a gentle scrub.
  • Massage some oil, anything from vegetable to sunflower and even olive will help cure dry skin.
  • If your hands are chapped, gently wash them, then soak in vinegar. Slip on gloves and leave overnight.
  • Make a natural face scrub with yogurt, papaya or pumpkin. Spread onto the face and body as a mask and let sit for 15 minutes.
