Natural Remedies for Ringworm

Ringworm is caused by a fungus called dermatophytes, not worms. It is a superficial skin infection that appears as a ring of small blisters or scaly skin and grows outwards as the infection spreads. It affects people of all ages, though children are more likely to suffer from it than adults. The fungus can spread from children to adults to animals and back again, making good hygiene critical in controlling the disease.

How can I tell if I have ringworm?

  • A rash on the stomach, arms, legs or back
  • Rash edges that are crusth, moist, scaly and red with small bumps that look like blisters
  • Forms large round patches
  • May get worse after being in the sun
  • Easily mistaken for eczema if on the hands


How can I prevent ringworm?

  • Keep skin clean and dry
  • Change socks and underwear once a day
  • Wear loose-fitting clothing made of cotton; it breaths best.
  • Dry completely after a shower or bathe
  • Don’t share clothing, sports equipment, towels or sheets.
  • Always wear foot protection in public restrooms and showers.
  • Clean yourself thoroughly after any contact sport.
  • If you have an athlete’s foot infection put your socks on before your underwear to prevent it spreading.
  • Get pets treated for ringworm as soon as you suspect it may be there.


How can I treat ringworm?

  • Garlic is full of antiviral, antibacteria, and antifungal properties. Mash up a clove of garlic into a paste and spread it over the ringworm then cover with a bandage. Leave over night then wash and dry thoroughly in the morning.
  • Use a cottonball to dap apple cider vinegar over the ringworm 3-5 times a day for a few days, it’ll clear the fungus right out.
  • Try a paste of vinegar and salt. Spread it over the ringworm and leave overnight then wash and dry thoroughly the next morning.
  • Colloidal silver kills micro-organisms. Rub or spray some onto your ringworm twice a day until the infection is gone.
  • Use lavendar oil on ringworm wherever it appears. It has antifungal properties and helps eliminate odors.
