Natural Remedies for Rosacea

A common skin disease especially in those over 30, rosacea causes redness on the nose, cheeks, chin and forehead sometimes with bumps and pimples. It can affect your self-esteem and be a little painful. No one is quite sure what causes rosacea, but it is easy to diagnose and treat.

How can I tell if I have rosacea?

  • Flushed, red face
  • Sensitive and dry skin that may burn or sting
  • Small bumps and acne like break outs
  • Skin that is coarse and thick with a bumpy texture
  • Dry, red and irrtated eyes


How can I prevent rosacea?

  • You may not be able to prevent getting rosacea, but you can take steps to reduce symptoms and prevent flare-ups.
  • Get symptoms under control so you can work prevention rather than control.
  • Figure our your triggers. They may be food, drink and activity related so keep a diary.
  • Keep your face covered and protected especially during the heat of the day.
  • Only use skin care products for sensitive skin and be gentle.
  • Be good to your eyes. Wash them gently several times a day and use artificial tears if your eyes are dry.


How can I treat rosacea?

  • Eat a good, heallthy diet as nutritional issues may make rosacea worse.
  • Wash your face then gently apply camphor oil to help soothe your face.
  • Make a cold compress of chamomile by steeping three tea bags in three cups of boiling water. Cool then apply to the affected area.
  • Gently exfoliate with some oatmeal. It cleanses moisturizes, and soothes.
  • Keep well hydrated.
  • Use licorice or lavender, but be careful… while they can reduce inflammation they can also cause contact dermatitis.
