Natural Remedies for Sinusitis

Inflammation and swelling of the tissue lining the sinuses is known as sinusitis. This causes the sinus which are normally full of air to fill with fluid and germs that will grow and cause an infection. Common colds, allergies, polyps or a deviated septum can all cause sinus swelling and lead to sinusitis. There are different types of sinusitis; acute, subacute, chronic and recurrent, and they all share symptoms. People with nasal mucous membrane swelling, blockage of drainage ducts, narrow drainage ducts, nasal polyps, and an increased risk of immune deficiencies are all at an increased risk of getting sinusitis.

How can I tell if I have sinusitis?

There are two main types of sinusitis:
Acute Sinusitis:

  • Facial pain and pressure
  • Nasal stuffiness
  • Nasal discharge
  • Loss of smell
  • Cough and congestion
  • Fever
  • Bad breath
  • Fatique
  • Dental Pain

Chronic Sinusitis:

  • Facial congestion and fullness
  • Nasal obstruction and blockage
  • Pus in the nasal cavity
  • Fever
  • Discharge and discolored postnasal drainage
  • Headaches
  • Bad breath
  • Fatigue
  • Dental Pain


How can I prevent sinusitis?

You can’t always prevent sinusitis, but you can help to control how bad it gets and some of the causes.

  • Limit dairy consumption if you feel you’re getting a cold.
  • Avoid environmental allergens
  • Stay away from cigarette smoke.
  • Take care of any dental infections.
  • Quickly take care of cold or flu symptoms
  • Wash your hands often, especially in public places


How can I treat sinusitis?

  • Drink lots of water to stay hydrated and help to flush out infection.
  • Eat foods with a little cayenne pepper or horseradish in them. It helps to dissolve and elminte excess mucus.
  • Eat garlic and onion. They are antibacterial and antiviral.
  • Use a neti pot to do a nasal flush.
  • Drink a mixture of 1-2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in 8oz of water, and a teaspoon of honey 3-5 times a day.
