Removal of Stretch Marks From Pregnancy: Natural Treatments

Most of us have had stretch marks at one time or another, usually from adolescence while we are growing too quickly for our skin to keep up.  During pregnancy the speed at which the skin has to stretch is far more intense, leading to severe stretch marks, many of which don’t normally go away.  While they aren’t damaging in any way, most women find them to be very unattractive, but luckily there are ways we can help our body heal the skin and remove them!

How can I prevent stretch marks during pregnancy?

The best way to get rid of stretch marks is to avoid them in the first place.  For your stretch marks as well as your baby to be, you should eat a lot of brightly colored plant foods, and an otherwise healthy diet, which will contain many essential nutrients your skin needs to keep healthy and both get rid of old cells and replace them with new vibrant ones.  The main nutrients are vitamins E and K, but many minerals and other nutrients come into play as well, so having a healthy diet is key.  Also, keep yourself hydrated with plenty of water throughout the day, otherwise your skin will do without and be more likely to get stretch marks.  These two methods should be used on the outside of your skin as well by using lotions and creams specifically fortified with vitamin E, and regenerative ingredients like aloe, which will also help keep your skin hydrated.  Cocoa butter is our number one pick.

How can I get rid of my stretch marks?

So be it stretch marks you already had or because the stretching was just too severe to prevent marking, it’s time to start repairing the damage!  The best thing to do is to have a multi-step daily regimen which will take away dead skin, help your skin be able to grow new tissue, and keep it hydrated.  The first step is to gently exfoliate your skin in the morning with a dry brush, and then apply some lemon juice of lactic acid to your stretch marks.  If you shower in the morning, go ahead and do that now and get these areas especially clean.  Once you get out and dry off, cut a potato in half and rub on the stretch marks in a circular motion for around 10 minutes, and then coat the stretch marks with cocoa butter or vitamin E enriched lotion and carry on with your day!  Make sure to re-apply lotion 1-2 more times during the day, especially before bed.  Continue this routine and watch your stretch marks slowly lighten and fade away!  Some people see some improvement quickly, but the process can take from weeks to months depending on severity and other factors.
