A hemorrhoid is a swollen vein in the anal canal. They are a common problem and rarely serious, though often quite uncomfortable. There are both internal and external hemorrhoids and it is possible to have both at the same time. The swelling that causes hemorrhoids is often caused by straining, diarrhea, constipation, pregnancy, and being overweight.

  • Bleeding during bowel movements
  • Itching
  • Rectal pain


How can I prevent hemorrhoids?

  • Avoid constipation by eating a diet high in fiber.
  • Drink lots of fluids.
  • Get exercise every day
  • Visit the bathroom as soon as you have the urge.
  • Don’t strain.
  • Avoid sitting when you’re finished.
  • Avoid prolonged sitting or standing.


How can I treat hemorrhoids?

  • Make a grated potato poultice. Potato works as an astringent and it soothes pain. Do not use as a suppository.
  • Eat 1-3 prunes a day to help alleviate constipation.
  • After wiping, dry dabbing with a cotton ball soaked in white or apple cider vinegar. This will help end itching and burning.
  • Ice your bottom. It reduces blood flow decreasing swelling.
  • Eat lots of vitamin C rich foods. They help to tone up your blood vessels.
  • Aloe vera reduces inflammation.
