Lymphedema occurs when the leg or arm begins to fill with fluid because the lymph nodes are unable to do their job of filter wastes out of the body. Though it tends to only affect on limb, it can affect more than one and is considered to be incurable. Primary lymphedema occurs at birth, while secondary lymphedema is caused by infections, surgeries, cancer and cancer treatments and deep vein thrombosis.   • Wear protective gloves while doing house work.
  • Be carefully cutting nails.
  • Wash your hands often.
  • Protect your skin from injury as much as possible.
  • Report any infections to your doctor as quickly as possible.
  • Avoid tight clothing.
  • Do not walk barefoot.


How can I treat Lymphedema?

  • Cut out all processed foods and all highly acidic foods to help reduce the load on the lymph nodes.
  • Add in green plant foods which help to rebalance the body and are anti-inflammatory.
  • Gently dry skin brush the affected limb to help stimulate sluggish lymph nodes.
  • Drink lots of water. Water helps to flush toxins out of the body.
  • Get regular exercise. Exercise helps everything wake up and get moving including the lymph system.
