Treat Winter Skin Naturally

Keeping skin healthy and happy during the winter can be a challenge. The cold, harsher temperatures can dry skin out, and even though there is a lot of precipitation through snow and rain, it just doesn’t seem to stick to our skin. When the colder temperatures begin to settle in, take preventative measures to ensure your skin stays happy, healthy and well moisturized!

How do I prevent winter skin?

  • Use a humidifier to keep the air moist during the winter.
  • Avoid long, hot showers; keep the water lukewarm.
  • Avoid alcohol consumption; it increases dehydration.
  • Keep applying sunscreen to keep your skin healthy.
  • Increase your omega-3 foods.


How can I treat winter skin?

  • Soak itchy skin in a baking soda bath to help alleviate the itching.
  • Make an oatmeal bath. It’s high in vitamin E which is great for moisturizing and healing skin.
  • Make a moisturizer of cream, milk and a little lime juice. Rub it on and leave for a bit before washing off.
  • Rub plain yogurt mixed with a little lime on your skin, leave for ten minutes then rinse off.
  • Honey is full of anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties, just heat some up a little, rub it on your skin like a mask, then wipe off 15 minutes later.
  • Make a salt scrub by gently rubbing a handful of coarse salt after showering, then rinse off to remove flakes.
  • Rub down with any type of vegetable oil after a shower to help lock in moisture.
